‘I didn’t kill my baby’

A 30-YEAR-OLD woman of Mumbwa has pleaded not guilty to killing her 11-month-old child.
Before Kabwe High Court judge in-charge Mwiinde Siavwapa on Wednesday was Temala Kasonga who appeared for plea and she denied charge of murder.

Kasonga is alleged to have killed her child on August 29 last year in Mumbwa.
Judge Siavwapa adjourned the case to July 17 for trial.
She was committed to the Kabwe High Court for trial by the Mumbwa magistrates Court.
In the same court, Harrison Lungu of Mkushi pleaded guilty of causing the death of Aaron Silungwe on March 29 last year.
Lungu was initially facing a charge of murder but it was reduced to manslaughter.
And in the same court was Hostern Manshi of Kabwe who denied killing Thomas Munslele on December 14 last year.
Manshi denied the charge and trial commences on July 15.
Separately appearing in the same were Ngosa Banda, 41, of Kabwe and Evens Shikaseba, 44, also of Kabwe pleaded not guilty of murdering Matilda Tembo and Witika Kateya respectively.
And the magistrate’s court in Kitwe has convicted and fined Mahmoud Rabie Aly Ghattas (20), an Egyptian national K12,000 for selling pots and carpets from his car without a permit
The Egyptian who was arrested on June 11, 2014 in riverside has since paid the count fine and the state has since forfeited his merchandise.
In another development, the magistrate court In Chililabombwe this week convicted and sentenced two Chinese nationals to a fine of K2,000 each or in default three months simple imprisonment for entering the country illegally.
The duo was arrested on June 30, 2014 for using ‘jetons’ (equivalent of a border pass) and were deported after they paid the fine.
This is according to a statement made available to Daily Mail yesterday by Immigration public relations officer Namati Nshinka.
