2)–Social cash transfer funds cheer villagers

Government has released Two Hundred and twenty five thousand Kwacha ( K225, 000) for the Social Cash Transfer Programme to benefit 1, 413 vulnerable people in Luangwa district.

Luangwa District Acting Social Welfare Officer Collins Chavuta disclosed this when District Commissioner Eunie Mumba visited some beneficiaries at pay point centers in the district.

Mr Chavuta said Government through the Department of Social Welfare has released K225, 000 as social cash transfer to benefit the identified people in the area.

He further said the number of beneficiaries is expected to increase as the department is still identifying more vulnerable people in the district to benefit from the Social Cash Transfer programme.

Mr Chavuta said beneficiaries will be paid between K140.00 and K280.00 bi – monthly.

And District Commissioner Eunie Mumba commended Government for alleviating poverty among the most impoverished and vulnerable people in society.

Mr Mumba called on the beneficiaries to utilize the money for the intended purpose of improving their livelihoods.

He said Government is committed to alleviating poverty among the people through innovative and workable programmes such as the Social Cash Transfer programme.

The District Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to supplement Government efforts by putting the money to good use such as educating their children so that they grow up into better citizens who will contribute positively to national development.

And one of the beneficiaries, 63 year old Betina Phiri a widow with four orphans thanked Government for the social cash transfer as the money will help her solve some of her problems and enable her take care of her  grandchildren.
