A 62-YEAR-OLD woman and her 16 year-old son, both of Bulongo village in Nakonde, yesterday appeared before the Nakonde Magistrate’s Court for allegedly trafficking in psychotropic substances.
Appearing before magistrate Joshua Sikazwe was Dorothy Naluyele and Taylor Gondwe.
Particulars of the offence are that on March 16 this year, a combined team of Drug Enforcement Commission and Zambia Police Service officers carried out a search at Naluyele’s house following a tip-off from members of the public that there was a woman trading in cannabis in Bulongo village.
After a thorough search of the house, three balls of cannabis weighing 4.1 grams were allegedly found behind Naluyele’s house.
It is alleged that after the duo noticed officers searching their house, one of them threw the balls of cannabis outside the house through the window.
The prohibited drugs were concealed in a khaki paper.
It was after officers noticed an open window that they went around the house and found the drugs thrown below it.
Magistrate Sikazwe has since set July 10 for defence. The duo has been remanded in police custody. -ZANIS.
