Govt. authorises commencement of re-gravelling of Kashikishi- Luchinda road

Nchelenge, June 2nd, 2014, ZANIS  — Government has authorised the commencement of the re-gravelling and the formation of the Kishikishi-Luchinda road in Luapula Province.

 

Nchelenge District Commissioner (DC) Royd Chakaba says the 500 million kwacha contract between the contractor and the Road Development Agency (RDA) has been signed.

 

Mr. Chakaba said the consortium of Copperfield Mining Company and China Hinan has been awarded the contract to work on the long await Kishikishi-Luchinda road.  

 

ZANIS reports that the DC said this when he officially opened the second quarter District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) meeting held at the Council Chamber this morning.

 

Mr. Chakaba said the government has given the contractor 90 days to mobilize and move on site adding that the contract has a life span of two years and five months.

 

He said over 1000 jobs will be created for the local people in Nchelenge and Chienge Districts in Luapula Province and Kaputa in Northern Province once the works commence.

 

He announced that the works to improve the road to the bituminous level will encompass the tarring of the ten point three kilo metres stretch of the township roads and the improvement of the drainage system. 

 

During the same meeting the DC also disclosed that the procurement of water vessels for the Mweru Water Transport Board by the government has reached an advanced stage.

 

He observed that the procurement of the water vessels will enhance the safety of the travelling public on the open Mweru Lake and avoid the unnecessary loss of lives.

 

And Mr. Chakaba has commended the Nchelenge District Council for grading the township roads at the cost of K155, 000 mobilized locally.

 

Mr. Chakaba said the local authority must be commended for the innovativeness to work on the township roads some of which had become a mess to the public especially motorists.

 

He urged the Council Secretary Mulowa Sishumba and his team to expedite the acquisition of land for setting up of the filling station.

 

He said among the roads that were rehabilitated are Chabilikila-Shabo, Mutono, Lushiba, Nchelenge Secondary-Kashikishi old market and Lushiba including all township roads.
