The Zambia Open University has been given 500 hectors of land by Chief Mpande on which to build a University in Mbala district.

This came to light during the Mutomolo traditional ceremony of the Mambwe/Lungu speaking people of Mbala and Mpulungu districts over the weekend.

Chief Mpande handed over a letter of offer of the land to Zambia Open University Vice Chancellor Professor Mutale Musonda.

And Mbala District Commissioner Best Kabulembe has welcomed the gesture saying the development will create an opportunity for more people especially in the Northern Province to access University education.

Once the construction of the institution is completed, it will be the only University in Northern Province.
