VENTURES AFRICA – Japanese multinational corporation, Nikon Corporation which specialize in optics and imaging products, has appointed Zambia’s Radian Stores as its distributor in that country, in a bid to gain a stronghold of the country’s electronic market.

“Nikon DSLRs and COOLPIX compact cameras as well as lenses would be available in all major electronic outlets and Radian Stores across the country from July 1,” said Takashi Yoshida, managing director of Nikon Middle East and Africa.

“We would like Zambians to not only experience their country’s marvels, but capture beauty through our Nikon cameras
and share it with the world.”

The popular camera maker is considered one of the top sellers on the continent, with significant sales in top markets including Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, South Africa, the continent’s most advanced economy, Ghana, and Kenya.

It Zambian move is seen as a continued effort to deepen is reach in Africa by extending presence in the continent’s emerging markets.

Nikon Corporation was established in 1917 when three leading optical manufacturers merged to form a comprehensive, fully integrated optical company known as Nippon Kōgaku Tōkyō K.K.

Over the next sixty years, the company became a renowned manufacturer of optical lenses (including those for the first Canon cameras) and equipment used in cameras, binoculars, microscopes and inspection equipment.

During World War II the company grew to nineteen factories and 23,000 employees, supplying items such as binoculars, lenses, bomb sights, and periscopes to the Japanese military.
