POLICE in Kalomo have arrested two people in connection with the axing and shooting to death of a 61-year-old man and his wife in Siamabandi Village in Chief Siachitema’s area.

Southern Province commissioner of police Mary Chikwanda said yesterday the incident happened last Thursday around 21:00 hours at Siamabandi Village.
She said the bodies of Edgar Munsanje and Mebby Kauka, whose ages are unknown, were found with multiple wounds.
“Mr Munsanje and Ms Kauka sustained deep cuts on the heads and their bodies were riddled with bullets, an axe is also believed to have been used,” Ms Chikwanda said.
She, however, withheld the identities of the suspects for fear of jeopardising investigations.
“The bodies are in Zimba District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” Ms Chikwanda said.
Meanwhile, a 53-year-old Turkish diplomat on Saturday died on the spot while his three passengers sustained injuries after his vehicle careered off the Zimba-Livingtsone road and overturned.
Ms Chikwanda named the diplomat as Masuk Bektas.
She said the accident happened around 07:20 hours after Mr Bektas lost control of his Toyota Altezza about 15kms from Zimba.
“The car overturned and Mr Bektas died on the spot after sustaining head injuries,” she said.
The passengers admitted to Zimba District Hospital are Huseyin Erben, 28, who sustained bruises on the right hand, Aykut Kaesa, 16, who suffered a swollen leg and Nathal Zorlu, 46, who has a backache.
