—-Patriotic Front (PF) Chibombo Central Ward Councillor, Robby Malindima, has commended the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) for the role it continues to play in uplifting the welfare of people in the country.

Mr Malindima says the UCZ is among many other Churches in the country which have continued to partner with government in implementing projects aimed at uplifting the well-being of people in society.

He observed that this has been seen in a number of schools and health institutions constructed by the Church to complement government’s efforts in ensuring that people have access to such facilities.

Mr Malindima said the Church has also continued to undertake a number of community service programmes which help to uplift the well-being of people.

The civic leader said this when he officiated at the launch of celebrations to mark 50 years of UCZ existence in Zambia, which was held at St John’s Church in Chibombo district yesterday.

The launch of Golden Jubilee Celebrations for the Church was attended by hundreds of UCZ congregants from 23 churches within Keembe Consistory.

Meanwhile, Mr Malindima has urged UCZ members to continue praying for peace and harmony in the country as the nation also celebrates the Golden Jubilee Independence this year.

He said Zambia cannot celebrate the Golden Jubilee without recognizing the role the Church has played in promoting peace and harmony among Zambian people.

He also called on the Church members to continue upholding Christian values which reflect the true character of Jesus Christ.

And speaking in a sermon, Smart Yanika urged the congregation to embrace peace and unity and reject acts that have potential to divide the Church.

The UCZ is one of the biggest protestant churches in Zambia and was formed in 1965.
