-Residents of Mitete District in Western Province have expressed happiness over the progress going on at the construction of Mitete Boarding School.

Speaking on behalf of others, Village Headman Nowa Lemba said the people of Mitete are more than happy to see progress going on at the boarding school.

Mr Lemba said the contractor, China Jiangxi, has shown seriousness in the project, saying each and every day there is progress at the site.

He said currently the district has no high school which is a challenge to many parents, saying their children travel long distances as the only secondary schools are in Lukulu district.

Mr Lemba said once pupils make it to Grade 10, parents pay for their accommodation, food, transport and school materials as they travel to Lukulu each term which is a cost to them.

He said once the school will be completed all the pupils in the district will be accommodated at the learning institution, saying the boarding school will lessen the expenses by the parents.

And Mitete District Commissioner, Teddy Chimbinde, who toured the site of the boarding school, said he is impressed with the way the contractor is working.

Mr Chimbinde said so far the land has been cleared and by next week the contractor will start building teachers’ houses.

The DC said though the contractor is facing water problems he will make sure that he does a great job for the people of Mitete district.

He said he will keep monitoring the project to make sure that it is done according to the way it was planned.

Mr Chimbinde has since assured the people of Mitete and the nation at large that once completed the school will add value to the country.

A check by ZANIS at the site found workers and the contractor busy working.
