— Govt. to build first ever trades school in Zambezi district

– Government has reiterated its commitment to construct the first ever trades training institute in Zambezi district.

Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education Director, Alex Simumba says the planned trades institute would not only offer education services to the people of North Western province but will for the rest of the country as well.

Mr. Simumba said that the land required for the construction of the trades training institute in the area is about 30 to 40 hectares, adding that the institute will be constructed in three
phases.

He however engaged the community in choosing the programmes that would be offered by the trades institute.

 

ZANIS reports that Mr. Simumba revealed this when he led a team from ministry when it met with Indunas in Zambezi district at Chitokoloki Mission , today.

 

The education technocrats are in the area to assess the land that would be earmarked for the construction of the trades institute.

Among the programmes that were chosen by the community were fashion and designing, metal fabrication, general agriculture, carpentry and joinery, leather processing and power electrical.

And District Commissioner, Catherine Mukuma thanked government for honouring its promise of constructing the first ever trades training
institute in Zambezi district.

Ms Mukuma noted that the Patriotic Front government under the leadership of President Michael Sata is according provision of
education services from pre -school to tertiary level by constructing schools and colleges across the country.

On 14th May this year during the centenary celebration of Chitokoloki, Vice President, Dr Guy Scott said that government intends to construct
a trades training institute in Zambezi district and that it would be named after Jay and Katrina Erickson who perished in a plane crush
along the Zambezi river in the area.
