Monze District to receive K900, 000 for dip tanks construction

 

Monze, June 28th, 2014, ZANIS —-  Monze District Commissioner Biggie Mwiinde has disclosed that his district will receive a total of K900, 000 for the construction of six new dip tanks in draught prone areas.

 

Mr. Mwiinde says his council will receive an additional K77, 000 for the rehabilitation of eleven old dip tanks to curb livestock diseases.

 

 

He disclosed further that the fisheries department has restocked a number of dams in the district in order to enhance fish farming among the small scale farmers.

 

 

ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this during the Monze District Agriculture and Commercial Show at Monze Show grounds yesterday.

 

 

This year’s agricultural and commercial show was held under the theme: “ 2014- Breaking new grounds, commemorating 50 years of Independence.”

 

 

Mr. Mwiinde said the Patriotic Front government had developed technologies aimed at improving crop, livestock and fish farming methods for sustainable and improved production and urged farmers to take advantage of such abundant technologies at no cost.

 

 

He reminded the farmers in the area of government’s commitment to improving food security through the provision of farmer input support program.

 

And speaking at the same event, District Agriculture Show Chairperson utter Kalyalya bemoaned the rampant increase in the theft of livestock in Monze District especially cattle, pigs, goats and sheep.

 

 

Mr. Kalyalya appealed to government to put up punitive measures to those found wanting so that livestock could be protected.
