Save the Children Zambia feeding programmes in Lukulu districts

Lukulu, 27th June, 2014, ZANIS — Save the Children, a non-governmental organisation has embarked on a six months pilot project called Essential Package at three schools in Lukulu District.

Essential Package National Coordinator Brighton Nchimunya said the program is a framework to support the development and livelihood needs of young children and their caregivers living in extremely difficult circumstances.

Mr. Nchimunya said the program will also offer health, nutrition and protection components in order to support the development needs of young children who are without appropriate care, who are affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.

He said this during a one day workshop on The Essential Package program to Heads of government departments and stakeholders at council chambers in Lukulu District yesterday.

The Essential Package National Coordinator added that the program will also support those who are also at risk of never achieving their developmental potential saying humanity owes a child the best it has to give.

He Save the Children and its partners will collaborate government, the community and civil society stakeholders to implement it further.

The benefiting schools are namely Kalambwe, Kankwilimba and Kayewe schools respectively which all have Early Child Development programms running through the Ministry of Education.

And Lukulu Acting District Administrative Officer Charles Nkomesha said that the training has been beneficial to the officers and stakeholders who are going to embark on the project.

Save the Children Essential Package will be working hand in hand with government line ministries such as the ministry of Education, Ministry of Community, Mother and Child and the Ministry of Gender and Social Welfare.
