The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) has given the Public Service Management Division (PSMD) a one week ultimatum in which to ensure that all public service workers classified as ghost workers receive their salaries.

CSAWUZ General Secretary Joy Beene has charged that the anomaly is due to lack of proper auditing of civil servants transferred across the country.

Mr Beene said that the problem has exposed the failure by human resource personnel to deliver as they have been given the mandate to perform the task.

He said government should rectify the matter as it is not only affecting teachers but also other civil servants in ministries such as Agriculture, Health and Ministry of Information.

And Zambia Congress of Trade union (ZCTU) president Leonard Hikaumba has said PSMD should have accurate records of storing information about civil servants in the country.

He said there is need for efficiency in record keeping by collecting enough data that can help in tracing government workers including those that are transferred.

Mr Hikaumba said that it is unfortunate that PSMD does not have proper data about government workers.
