IBOLELO Secondary School in Serenje District is scouting  for K19 Million for renovations and construction of new infrastructure at the school.

This came to light during the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Executive Committee project meeting which was held yesterday.

PTA project chairperson Joel Mashonga highlighted that Ibolelo was using old infrastructure used by the Ministry of Community Development which does not meet secondary school standrds.

Mr Mashonga said the structures at the weekly boarding school were constructed many years ago for different activities such as tailoring and carpentry by the Ministry of Community Development.

Mr Mashonga said among the infrastructure the school wants to construct are teacher’s houses, classroom blocks, a modern school hall, a Head teacher’s office and sports infrastructure to motivate both the pupils and teachers.

The committee noted that the school requires dormitories for both boys and girls since pupils are currently renting  houses in the nearby Zambia compound.

The committee further noted that the situation is exposing the pupils to social ills such as unexpected pregnancies, contracting illnesses like STI’s, HIV/AIDS and alcoholism.

And school Head Teacher Sunday Mukosha revealed that despite having the defective infrastructure at the learning institution, the school has managed to record positive results at grade twelve and that the former pupils have contributed positively to the development of the nation.

Mr Mukosha has however appealed to well wishers  to come on board and assist the school with any kind of donation to help  change its face.
