ZAF employee in court for malicious damage to property

A Zambia Air Force (ZAF) employee has pleaded guilty to malicious damage of property belonging to his mother.

This is a matter in which Evans Jere, 37 of Kaunda Square stage 1, who appeared before Resident Magistrate Wendy Chibwesakunda sitting with Magistrate Briswe Tantameni,is facing one count of malicious damage to property contrary  to section 335(i) (b) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 as read with Act No. 17 of 2007 of theLaws of Zambia.

It alleged that Jere on May 19, 2014 wilfully and unlawfully damaged window panes and two doors altogether valued at K350 property of Joyce Mwale.

And when he was asked why he destroyed the property in question belonging to his mother, he responded that he was drunk.

The accused also admitted that he had no lawful justification for acting the way he did.

The matter has since been adjourned to July 4, 2014 for facts and the accused is remanded in custody.

And in the same court, a 58 year security guard has pleaded not guilty to stealing motor vehicle batteries, battery charger and jumper cables worth K9, 900 belonging to Mega Earth Movers.

The accused, Davies Kalenga of Kamwala South is facing one count of theft contrary to section 272 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It alleged that the Kalenga on May 31, 2014 did steal six motor vehicle batteries, one charger and a pair of jumper cables altogether valued at K9, 900 property of Mega Earth Movers.

The matter has since been adjourned to July 25, 2014 for mention and August 25, 2014 for commencement of trial.

The accused is on police bond which has since been extended.
