THE Kabwe High Court has sentenced two men aged 74 and 72 years to 25 and 15 years imprisonment respectively with hard labour for defilement. In the first case, Kabwe High Court-in-Charge Mwiinde Siavwapa sentenced the 74 -year-old Mkushi farmer, Kennedy Mwila to 25 years after he was found guilty of defiling a six-year-old girl. Mwila on March 5, 2012 defiled the girl who was left in his custody by the mother. During the trial, the State called five witnesses among them the girl’s mother who testified that upon her return from her journey, she found the girl crying. She told the court when she entered Mwila’s house, she found him dressing up while the baby was lying on the bed. She said she checked the child’s private parts and discovered that she had cuts. The matter was then reported to police. In another matter, a 72-year-old man of Kapiri Mposhi has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a 12 -year -old girl. On September 9, 2012, Safeli Mulenga defiled the girl who he had sent to buy talk. time. Later he dragged the girl into a house where he defiled her. During trial, the girl narrated in court that on the day in question, she was selling traditional beer when the convict asked her to buy talk time. When she bought the talk time and delivered it to Mulenga, the convict pushed her into his house. Mulenga locked the house and forced himself on the girl.
