Solwezi District AIDS Coordinating Advisor (DACA) Dunstan Sawomba has expressed fear that Solwezi district might record a relatively higher HIV prevalence rate owing to robust economic activities taking place.

Mr Sawomba said the 2013 Zambia Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS) report yet to be released might reveal an increase in the HIV prevalence rate from the current 10.2 percent.

He said the increased economic activities have attracted a number of people to the district which will negatively impact on the HIV incidence rate.

Mr Sawomba called on stakeholders in HIV/AIDS activities in the district to intensify their sensitization programmes.

He was speaking when North-western province Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga toured the District AIDS Taskforce (DATF) stand during Africa Public Service day road show held in Solwezi yesterday.

Mr Sawomba said emphasis must be placed on prevention messages such as the promotion and distribution of both male and female condoms and the medical male circumcision campaign.
