Chinese Veep implores teachers to upgrade their teaching careers

Visiting Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao has implored teachers in the country to upgrade themselves if their lives are to improve.

Dr Li says his country is offering a lot of career guidance scholarships in other sectors among them, the education sector which teachers and other civil servants could undertake in China.

Dr. Li urged teachers in Zambia including civil servants to apply for the scholarships noting that education is key to national development.

The Chinese Vice President, who was accompanied by out-going Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao and Chinese Embassy staff, said this in Lusaka when he visited the family of a David Kaunda Secondary School Teacher, January Mkandawire.

“We’ve got a lot of scholarships in China and if you’re interested, you can apply in one of the courses and upgrade yourself to better the livelihood of yourself and family,” Dr Li said.

Dr Li interacted with Mr. Mkandawire’s wife and children for close to 30 minutes.

And Dr Li has said policies of the Chinese government should be seen to be benefiting the Zambian people because China and Zambia both enjoy warm and cordial relations that have continued to exist for many years.

 He expressed happiness that the PF government under the leadership of President Michael Sata is on course in improving the living conditions of the Zambian workers who are being paid decent salaries. 

“I’m happy that what President Sata promised the Zambian workers of improving the conditions of service is being implemented,” he said. 

And in a separate interview, Mr. January Mkandawire who teaches Technical subjects for Grades 10, 11 and 12s is humbled to been visited by the Chinese Veep. 

Mr. Mkandawire is optimistic that Zambia will benefit a lot from the Chinese government in terms of bilateral relations in various economic fields like education, agriculture, health, construction, health, tourism and energy among others. 

He assured Dr Li that he would apply for the scholarship.

 

“I’m humbled to be visited by VIP from China. It’s a rear opportunity and privilege to mingle and interact with the visiting Vice President,” Mr Mkandawire said.

Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula, who accompanied Dr Li to David Kaunda Secondary School, said he is happy that teachers and civil servants appreciate the good policies of government.
