Zambian co-driver claims top slot in Oryx Energies Rally of Tanzania

Lusaka, Zambia – Zambian rally car navigator David Sihoka and his team-mate Jaspreet Chatthe of Kenya have clinched the 2014 Oryx Energies Rally of Tanzania at the weekend, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer EVOX. The rally was the fourth leg of the prestigious African Rally Championship (ARC).

“Congratulations to David,” said Oryx Energies Managing Director for Zambia, Stuart Frost. “Oryx Energies is proud to support such an important international event and delighted that Zambia was represented so skilfully.”

“It has been a good career at the top of the sport. I have won many events across the nation but most important is to have fun. I enjoyed this one very much,” David Sihoka told the Fédération International de l’Automobile (FIA).

ZANIS sports reports that this is according to a statement received in Lusaka this evening by Zambia Motor Sports Association public relations office.

Kenya’s Jaspreet Chatthe moved into second place in the 2014 ARC rankings, becoming the first Kenyan driver to win an event in Tanzania since 2002 and scoring his first-ever victory since stepping into the sport just two seasons ago.

Zambian driver, Mohammed Essa, failed to finish the race due to a vehicle fault, but he still sits in third place in the ARC rankings.

The Oryx Energies Rally of Tanzania covered a total of 501.47km, of which 234.55km were spread over 16 competitive sections. It opened with a Super Special Stage (SSS) of 1.45km on Friday June 13, with the final stages held on Sunday June 15. Of the original 19 starters, 12 completed the event.

This is the first time that Oryx Energies in Tanzania has sponsored this major three-day event, which attracts drivers and navigators from across Africa.

The company has announced that it will sponsor the next two events.
