Yaluma to issue Ministerial statement on KCM

The Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini has directed mines Minister Christopher Yaluma to issue a Ministerial statement on issues surrounding Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) following revelations that the mine has been making $500 million profits per year.

Dr. Matibini was making a ruling on a point of order raised by one of the members of parliament who wanted to find out whether government was in order to remain silent over reports that despite the mine claiming that it has been operating on loses, KCM has been actually making huge profits.

Dr. Matibini has informed the House this afternoon when it resumed its sittings that the Minister had in advance of resuming the House’s sittings informed his office that he desired to issue a Ministerial statement on the subject.

Dr. Matibini says the Ministerial statement and its preparations are underway and that soon than later the House and the nation at large will appraisal the issues surrounding KCM.

And the Speaker has also permitted Agriculture Minister Wilbur Simuusa to give a Ministerial Statement on Friday this week on the issue of the Flow Price for Maize.

Making a ruling on a Point of Order by MMD Chembe Member of Parliament Mwansa Mbulakulima who wanted to know why government has remained silent over the announcement the Flow Price for Maize, Dr. Matibini has informed the House that Mr. Simuusa has been already scheduled to issue the statement.

Mr. Mbulakulima was expressing his concern on how farmers in the country can be patient not to sell their produce to briefcase buyers when government to which they have been advised to sell their produce has not announced the Flow Price for Maize.

Meanwhile the Speaker has observed that it will be up to the Minister of Health Joseph Kasonde to deem it fit in his judgment and at an appropriate, to advice the House and the nation at large on the health of President Michael Sata.

Dr. Matibini was making a ruling on a Point of Order by Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa who wondered whether government was in order to remain silent and allow speculations on the health of President Sata by not issuing a comprehensive statement to the House for debate purposes.
