Extraordinary Journeys, the New York City-based safari outfitter, recently announced a new 10-day safari to Botswana and Zambia that is intended to benefit the Great Plains Foundation’s Zeros for Rhinos initiative.

Rhinos are regularly poached in South Africa and Zimbabwe and are in danger of becoming extinct, but this nonprofit has a plan to relocate 100 of the animals to the safety of the Okavango Delta, and $6,000 of each booking — half the cost of the trip – -is a donation to the cause.

The itinerary includes a stay at three different camps including the ultra-luxurious Zarafa Camp; prime game viewing at the 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana, home to the African wild painted dog, large elephant herds, rare roan antelopes and a variety of nocturnal wildlife; and river excursions in a dugout canoes called mokoros.

The Zambia portion of the trip has several options for adrenaline-pumping activities at Victoria Falls including elephant-back safaris, abseiling, heli-flips and whitewater rafting on the Zambezi River.

“There is an urgency to save these animals from poachers, and we want to do everything we can to help and are thrilled to be part of this initiative, ” said Marcia Gordon, Extraordinary’s co-founder. Pricing begins at $12,000 per person without international flights, and travel is valid from Nov. 1, 2014, to May 31, 2015.
