Chikankata District Council to upgrade 120 kilometers of feeder road this year

 

Mazabuka, June 13th, 2014, ZANIS —  Chikankata District Council Secretary Damson Mukwato has disclosed that the local authority in the area is targeting to upgrade a total of 120 kilometers of feeder road this year using funds from the Constituency Development Fund ( C.D.F).

 

 

Mr.Mukwato stated that the council has since embarked on the grading and gravelling of major roads in the district using the Two hundred and Forty Thousand Kwacha (K240, 000) that was approved to go towards roads for the year 2013 C.D.F allocation.

 

He disclosed in an interview with ZANIS in Mazabuka today that hid council is set to upgrade twenty roads.

 

He said so far, the local authority has managed to do more than 60km of the roads that lying in the far flank areas of the district.

 

 

He revealed that the council is using the earth moving equipment that was procured from the 2012 C.D.F allocation to embark on the road construction projects in the recently established district.

 

He named some of the roads that are under construction as the Upper Kaleya – Simoonga road, Chikankata market – Ngangula road, Chikankata mission – Chiefs place road adding that works on the Chikankata – Mazabuka junction road have already been completed.

 

 

Mr.Mukwato said the local authority is working round the clock to ensure that the identified roads are quickly worked on before the onset of the rain season.

 

 

He underscored the importance of having a good road network saying improving roads in an area like Chikankata which is an agriculture food production area will help ease the hardships farmers face in transporting their produce.

 

 

And Mr.Mukwato has appealed to investors willing to put up modern infrastructure to visit the district and identify areas where they could be interested to invest.

 

 

He said Chikankata District at the moment still has vast land that can accommodate the setting up of both industrial and commercial business entities saying the council is willing to help such firms to set up their investments.

 

“We have just finished surveying the area which we want to turn into a residential area housing 1400 plots, 90 commercial plots and some few plots for industrial and at the moments we are opening up roads in this area.

 

“All this is being done in order to change the face of Chikankata which is approximately 60 kilometers from the capital City (Lusaka),” charged Mukwato.

 

He assured that the status of the district will undoubtedly change once formalities into the construction of the District Administration block at Nega – Nega area has been finalised.
