Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Zhou Yuxio, has advised Zambians to invest in education, science and technology, in order to develop the  country.

Ambassador Yuxio says Zambia can develop and has much potential apart from mining which can be invested in to transform the country.

ZANIS reports that the Chinese Envoy said this today, during the donation of 40 computers, computer desks and chairs at Mulungushi University by Huawei Technologies Zambia Company Limited, in Kapiri-Mposhi district.

He said his country is currently among the most developed countries in the world, because it has used the advancement of education, science and technology to develop itself.

The Ambassador observed that minerals are necessary for the development of any country, but also advised that no country should exclusively depend on them, as they are not the only pre-requisite to development.

He commended Huawei for donating computers to Mulungushi University and advised the university to use the donation as gesture that will strengthen the bilateral relations between Zambia and Chine.

And Minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education, Dr John Phiri has thanked China for remaining Zambia’s all weather friends.

Dr Phiri said his government appreciates the sacrifices and commitments made by the Chinese government aimed at ensuring development in the country.

He said Zambia would not have made this far without the consistent material, financial and physical support of the Chinese government.

He particularly thanked Huawei Technologies Zambia Company Limited for considering Mulungushi University and donating modern equipment which he believes will contribute to the already cordial bilateral relations between Zambia and China.

The Minister said government is alive to the benefits that come with education, science and technology and will make every effort to ensure that the country benefits from China’s success story.

He noted that the Chinese language is increasingly becoming one of the most sought after languages in business and international relations and has no doubt that the Zambian students will benefit from this exposure.

And earlier, Huawei Technologies Zambia Company Limited, Director Jacky Zhang says the donation of 40 desktop computers, computer desks and chairs is part of its company’s strict social corporate responsibility.

Mr Zhangy said has been in partnership with Zambia for over 13 years and its decision to donate to the advancement of technology comes in the wake of the increasing need for connectivity among Zambians.

He says his company will continue supporting learning institutions in ensuring the equipment used in various learning institutions is updated.

And Mulungushi University Vice Chancellor, Professor Hellicy Ng’ambi, has thanked Huawei and the Ambassador Zhou Yuxio for the donation of computers and the individual donation of soccer balls to her university.

Professor Ng’ambi says the University will remain indebted to the Chinese government for the gesture.

Meanwhile,  Ambassador Yuxio announced his retirement and thus bade his farewell to the country.

In his very emotional farewell message to Zambia, Ambassador Yuxio 61 says he will miss Zambia for its friendliness, great weather patterns and beautiful culture and customs.

He said at the same occasion that he will retire by July 10th because he has gone beyond his country’s expected retirement age of 60 but promises to remain supportive to Zambia especially where development is concerned.

He has thanked the Zambian government for ensuring an enabling environment during his stay and pledges to remain a goodwill Ambassador to Zambia at all costs.

In bidding farewell to  the University, Ambassador Yuxio has made a remarkable contribution of 10 soccer balls to Mulungushi University to help mitigate the sporting challenges at the institution.
