012 Afcon winning coach Herve Renard believes that he has what it takes to lead Bafana Bafana, following Safa’s decision not to renew Gordon Igesund’s contract

The 45-year-old Frenchman confirmed his interest in becoming the South Africasenior national team’s next head coach.

However, Renard stated that he’s yet to be approached by the South African Football Association (Safa) regarding the vacancy, making him a long-shot choice. Renard worked in Zambia for four years and watched South African football closely, to follow his own players in the PSL.

Before leaving for France last year, the former AS Cannes defender was linked with Absa Premiership giants Orlando Pirates by Zambian media.
“Certainly, there is a reason, but the most important thing is the big potential. We can do something great, with a lot of work of course,” Renard told Kick Off.
The former Zambia senior national team mentor believes that his achievements with Chipolopolo are proof of his capabilities to work wonders with Bafana.
“It’s too easy to say I can bring this, this and this – I just want to be myself, with a lot of humility, because in football when you talk too much before, it’s not necessary to talk too much. I can just do what I know how to do,” he added.

The French born tactician led Chipolopolo to three Afcon tournaments between 2008 and 2013, and even won the 2012 edition as well as the 2013 Cosafa senior Cup with Zambia.

Renard revealed that he’s available since he hasn’t made an agreement with French Ligue 1 side FC Sochaux for a favourable deal.
“My contract will be finished at the end of this month. They proposed to me to renew it, but I didn’t accept. So at the moment I am free,” said Renard who will take time off in Zambia.
