The Patriotic Front (PF) in Northern Province has embarked on a party mobilisation exercise aimed at recruiting new members in the ruling party ahead of 2016 election.

PF Kaputa District Political Secretary, Boyd Chomba, told ZANIS in an interview in Kaputa recently that the programme is aimed at reaching out all districts in the province in capturing new members into the party.

Mr Chomba said the party in the province wants to be in control and ahead of time as the country moves closer to the 2016 general elections.

He explained that the programme which has been outlined by the Provincial Executive Committee will see all PF Members of Parliament including ministers from Northern Province undertake joint members and public rallies with electorates in all the districts.

Mr Chomba said six MPs from the region have since agreed to hold joint public meetings and rallies in Kaputa.

He named the MPs that will attend the rallies as Energy Minister, Christopher Yaluma, Northern Province Minister, Freedom Sikazwe, and Education Deputy Minister, Nevelyn Wilombe.

Others are Gender Deputy Minister, Obvious Chisala, Chimbamilonga MP, Hastings Chansa and his Kaputa Central counterpart, Maxas Ng’onga and PF Provincial Executive Committee members.

Mr Chomba, who welcomed the initiative, said the programme will see the party grow from its current position to be the only party in the province.

He disclosed that a number of people from the opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) have also come forward to join the ruling party.

He said those that have defected will publicly announce their intention during the meeting and public rally which will be held later.

Mr Chomba has further appealed to all Kaputa residents to support the ruling as it strives to improve the living standards of the people.
