The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) says there is hypocrisy among Zambians especially on things related to the country’s economic growth.

PAC Chairperson Vincent Mwale says it has been a well known fact that Vedanta Resources Chairperson, Anil Agarwal was making a lot of money from KCM, but that Zambians had kept quiet about it and it had to take his mockery of how much he was making for Zambians to wake up.

He says civil society organizations have been speaking out on taxes but have been given a deaf ear stressing that the KCM issue is a vindication of the CSOs.

Mr. Mwale says it is high time the Auditor General begins to audit mining companies for the government to begin to get a fair share of the money the mining companies are making.

He notes that Zambia is losing a lot of money through uncollected taxes and tax evasion which is why it is important that the Auditor General begins to audit mining companies.

Mr. Mwale adds that Zambians should not be scared of speaking out when things are wrong and wait until the situation gets worse, but must feel free to advise government when need arises.

He further states that there is need for government to establish the actual money being made by mining companies in the country.

  1. Some good points, but I’m falling asleep with such a plain, boring, and clinical writing style. Was this just copy and pasted from Radio QFM?
