Zambia Sugar says it is encountering problems in exporting sugar to the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC, one of its largest markets in the world, following the introduction of vultra 18 by the Zambia Revenue Authority- ZRA.

Vultra 18 is a document which is a sign of proof that the sugar is being exported.

Zambia Sugar Managing Director, Aubrey Chibumba, complained that it has been very difficult to obtain endorsement of the document from the DRC, making the export of sugar to that country very difficult.

Mr. Chibumba has since called on ZRA to remove the requirement so that the country can earn more forex through the export of sugar.

He says that exporting the commodity to Europe was no longer very profitable given the current low sugar prices and high logistical costs involved, hence the need to maximize business with nearby markets like the DRC.
