The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has commended the Zambia Police Service for its swift action in the arrest of a named pastor while in church, for defiling and impregnating a 15 year old girl.

CCZ General Secretary Suzanne Matale has since cautioned girls to be wary of church leaders who take advantage of them while pretending to offer help and solace.

Reverend Matale says Girls must not allow themselves to be exposed to situations that put them in danger and may lead to them being defiled.

She says CCZ continues to urge the church through its leaders to use the pulpit as an available tool in advocating for an end to defilement and speak against the evil act which has robbed girls the peace they deserve.

Reverend Matale notes that the Church has not been spared of this evil act and unfortunately the leaders who are given the responsibility to teach against the vice are in the forefront of perpetuating this act of violence against the girls.

She has also urged the Zambia Police Service not to relent but comb the House of God of all perpetrators of defilement which they have been using to lure victims especially young girls in the name of offering help.

Reverend Matale has also reminded the men of God, that it is high time they provided the society with leadership in the fight against defilement and not take the lead as perpetrators as this will cause people to lose confidence in the church and view it as a house of evil and not of good.

She states that men of God must at all times take the responsibility of protecting the girls from all forms of violence and not to do the exact opposite.

Reverend Matale further calls on the church to cleanse itself from the bad name it has attracted by looking out for people who abuse their leadership positions which they have been entrusted with.
