Teacher who impregnated a school girl is suspended

A teacher of Nondo primary school in Mbala district who allegedly impregnated a school girl at Mbala secondary school has been suspended to pave way for further investigations into the matter.

District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Alice Kamwi confirmed the suspension of the named teacher from performing duties pending further instructions from the provincial education officer in Kasama.

Mrs. Kamwi said preliminary investigations appear to incriminate the teacher of being responsible for the pregnancy of the grade 10 pupils

She said the teacher who is also married with one child is alleged to have had canal knowledge of the girl last year during grade nine examinations period on promise of assisting her pass to grade ten.

Mrs. Kamwi said the incident caused the community in chief Nondo‘s area to demand for an immediate removal of the teacher from that school for fear of other school girls falling prey to sexual abuse.

The DEBS said the community’s demand came in the wake of allegations against the teacher of having similar record of impregnating two girls at his former school before he was transferred to Nondo.
