The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has initiated the process of procuring CCTV to be installed on highways throughout the country.

And the Agency has announced that it plans to strengthen its Enforcement Unit by employing over 100 Road Traffic Inspectors so as to increase routine patrols.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, RTSA Chief Executive Director, Zindaba Soko, says the process has reached a stage where the agency will soon be inviting expression of interest from the public to survey the highways and map out strategic points where to install the CCTVs.

Mr. Soko says the need for more personnel coupled with installation of CCTVs along the highways is paramount especially with the opening of new corridors such as the Link Zambia 8000 Road Project.

He states that there is no doubt that modern road traffic enforcement requires surveillance equipment.

The RTSA CEO adds that this year, the agency will intensify road traffic enforcement through the procurement of enforcement equipment which includes; 10 speed cameras, 100 area lighting system for rescue, 100 LED Traffic Wands among others.
