The Independent Churches of Zambia (ICOZ) says it is not true that the church has abandoned the pulpit to join calls for the enactment of the new constitution.

ICOZ board Chairperson Bishop David Masupa says it is impossible to separate the issue of the constitution from the Church because it is a guiding document in the governance of the country.

Bishop Masupa states that it is the duty of the church to speak against any form of injustice in the governance of the country.

He says the Church has reservations on the current constitution because it does not address comprehensive issues such as social and economic rights.

Bishop Masupa says until some of the contentious clauses in the current constitution are addressed, the church will continue to talk about the Constitution.
