Nkana defender Christopher Munthali handed two match ban

Nkana will be without key defender Christopher Munthali for a second time in African club competition this season after picking up his second suspension.

Munthali has been handed a two-match ban by Caf after receiving two yellow cards in the 2014 Caf Confederation Cup knockout round at home and away against CAB Bizertin of Tunisia.

The 23-year-old defender is one of two Nkana players suspended for their forthcoming Caf Confederation Cup Group B debut, that they will mark with an away visit to Al Ahly of Egypt on 17 May in Cairo.

Nkana and midfielder captain Sydney Kalume has been slapped a one match ban meaning he will be only miss his sides opening Group B match away to Al Ahly.

“Further their defence kingpin Christopher Munthali has been suspended for two matches,” the Football Association of Zambia said in a statement.

“The players have accumulated yellow cards and Caf has written to us to notify us of the status of the two players.”

Munthali suspension will see him also miss Nkana’s second Group B match at home against Sewe Sport of Cote d’Ivoire on 24 May at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

The defender also missed Nkana’s last trip to Egypt on 30 March in the 2014 Caf Champions League last 16 final leg to face Zamalek in Cairo, who eventually ejected them from the competition 5-0 on aggregate to relegate them to the Confederation Cup.
