A SEVENTY-YEAR-OLD woman of Lusaka’s Chalala area has been burnt to death after she failed to come out of a burning house.
Christine Kambunga died after she failed to escape the ravaging fire that swept through her house on Tuesday evening after a suspected electrical fault.
The fire, which started around 19:30 hours, lasted more than three hours and reduced the house and the household property to ashes.
Ms Kambunga is believed to have tried to salvage some of her household property but in the process the fire engulfed the house making it difficult for her to come out.
By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the house had already been reduced to ashes and were only in time to pick up the charred remains of the woman.
Zambia police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the remains of the deceased woman have since been taken to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
