Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has called on President Michael Sata to immediately suspend North Western province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu to pave way for investigations against him over Procurement irregularities cited in Audit Report.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says his organization is dismayed to learn that Mr Mubukwanu who is PF Mongu Central Member of Parliament irregularly directed the Mongu Municipal council to award contracts in the allocation of 2 projects.

Mr Lungu says in view of the revelations on the Provincial Minister, the Anti-Corruption Commission should urgently institute investigations into the audit report.

Mr Lungu has also reminded the ACC to be proactive and utilize the already existing MOU that they signed with the Office of the Auditor general in June 2012 which allows them early access to such information.

He says TIZ expects by now that the ACC should have concluded such an investigation as the matter took place in 2012.

Mr Lungu states that TIZ recommends that law enforcement agencies should swiftly deal with all culprits cited in the Auditor General’s report.

He says it is not enough to continue paying lip service when huge public funds are being lost.
