Hundred of mourners have today paid their last respects to late veteran football commentator and journalist Dennis Liwewe who past away on the 22nd of April this week after an illness.
Among the notable mourners that attended funeral Requiem mass at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross included first republican President Kenneth Kaunda who described the death of Mr. Liwewe as a tragic lose.

Speaking shortly after he arrived for the funeral requiem mass, Dr. Kaunda observed the need for people to think seriously how to manage the absence of the late Liwewe.

And in his to tribute to his late father Ponga has noted that his father’s death has put an end to the old generation of the Liwewe family, him having been the last in his family, leaving the next generation to continue after him.

Meanwhile Mr. Liwewe’s wife Silvia remembered how truthful, trust worthy, friendly, cheerful a husband father, grandfather and friend Mr. Liwewe was in their 50 years of their marriage.

In her tribute speech read on her behalf by Dr. Friday Kazembe, Mrs. Liwewe says her husband discharged her matrimonial obligations to an extent only a few can equal.

Mr. Liwewe’s daughter Kwangu also narrated how life was going up under her late father’s watch.

In the in their tribute, his grand children also noted the lessons they have learnt from their late grand father.
Veteran sports administrator Maxwell Sichula also paid tribute to the late Mr. Liwewe and narrated what sort of friendship he had with him besides the passion they both shared for sport.

Other notable people that attended the requiem mass included republican vice president’s wife Charlotte Scott, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mkhondo Lungu, Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili, Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata and members of the Patriotic Front (PF) Central Committee.

MMD president Nevers Mumba, his vice Brian Chituwo, ABZ president Frank Bwalya, NAREP president Elias Chipimo, and PP president Mike Mulongoti were among opposition leaders that have also attended the funeral requiem mass.

The late veteran football commentator will be put to rest at Lusaka’s Leopards d Hill Memorial park.
