Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has disclosed that the suspected Patriotic Front (PF) cadres that attacked his entourage and interrupted an interview he was attending at a radio station in Ndola on Saturday yesterday were armed with among other things guns and machetes.

Mr. Hichilema says he suspects that the PF cadres whom he has referred to as being thugs may have come from Kitwe and Luanshya specifically sent to allegedly kill him.

Mr. Hichilema has told Qfm news that his conviction that the said suspected PF cadres came for his life is based on the fact that even after he left the radio station to open up his party’s new office within Ndola the same cadres pounced again on his entourage discharging fire arms while the Police watched the ordeal.

The UPND leader has also wondered why up now the Police have not arrested any of the suspected PF cadres when they were present at both incidents when members of his party were being attacked by the suspected PF cadres.

Asked whether he was injured during the fracas, the opposition leader says whether he was injured or not is not the issue but that what matters is the fact that members of his party were injured while they tried to defend themselves adding that that they were injured he too has been injured.

He says this is why he does not think it is necessary to file a formal complaint to the Police over the attacks as the Police were present during the two incidents.

He says President Michael Sata is however the one to blame as it is within his powers to stop such thugarism amongst his party members if only he wanted.

Mr. Hichilema has however warned that his party members should not blamed next time if the defend themselves to same extent as their attackers would be armed.
