Apply government resources correctly- Deputy Auditor General

0
Deputy Auditor General Ron Mwambwa  has called on the Provincial Administration in Western Province to work hand in hand with his office in ensuring that government resources are properly applied and appropriated in order to enhance development in rural areas of the country.
Speaking in Mongu when he paid a courtesy call on Western Province Permanent Secretary Augustine Seyuba, Mwambwa said there was need for people to manage resources appropriately as government attaches great importance to improving the livelihood of people living in rural areas.
Mr Mwambwa adds that issues such as un-retired imprest, procurement and unsupported payment voucher among other things can be resolved by controlling officers without reaching the Public Audit Committee for queries.
He noted that when people take keen interest and avoid such things money can be saved and can be taken towards national development.
Meanwhile Provincial Permanent Secretary Augustine Seyuba said development cannot take place if resources are misappropriated.
Mr Seyuba added that his office will ensure that all transactions be put on paper in order for the province to have zero audit queries in the future.
He has since appealed to the office of the Auditor General to come up with a programme of training controlling officers on how to manage resources and educating them on the consequences of not doing the right thing.
The Auditor General is in on a four days familiarization tour in the province to see how his office can work together with the Provincial Administration as well as visit some of the development projects funded by government and how they are progressing.
