Energy Minister Christopher Yaluma says government will be left with no option but to increase the fuel pump prices if the Kwacha continues depreciating against major global currencies.

Mr. Yaluma has told QFM News in an interview that this is because the continued weakening of the Kwacha against the US dollar is having an impact on the cost of procurement of petroleum by government.

Mr. Yaluma however states that the hiking of the fuel pump prices will not be automatic.

And Mr. Yaluma has disclosed that the construction of the fuel storage depot in Mpika District in Muchinga Province has been completed.

Mr. Yaluma, who is in Mpika to conduct an on the spot check on the fuel storage depot, says all that remains is to set the date for commissioning of the facility.

He says what is currently being finalized are access roads to the depot.

He says construction of the other the fuel storage depot in Mongu and Solwezi Districts is also on course.

Mr. Yaluma says once the construction of the fuel storage depots is completed in Mongu and Solwezi, government will begin the construction of the fuel storage depots in Chipata, Kasama and Mansa Districts.
