A FIGHT between three mentally challenged brothers in Mbala ended in tragedy when the oldest of the trio was hacked to death with a hoe handle by his younger siblings.
Police arrested the two brothers in connection with the death of their older brother who died from injuries he sustained during the fight.
Nothern Province deputy police chief Milner Muyambango confirmed the arrest of Thomas Silavwe, 28, and Gershom Silavwe, 30, who have been charged with murder.
Mr Muyambango identified the deceased as Chola Silvawe aged 38.
Meanwhile a crocodile in Chilubi has killed a fisherman whose only remains were a head and a rib.
The incident happened on Sunday when the deceased identified as Atanasio Musongo, 38, was fishing on Lake Bangweulu.
The death of Mr Musongo of Chilubi’s Kampamba Village in Chief Matipa’s area almost sparked a riot by villagers after his remains were discovered yesterday.
The dead man’s relatives took the head and the rib to the police resulting in a commotion by members of the public who believed the crocodile attack was precipitated by witchcraft.
Mr Muyambango said police prevented the situation from deteriorating and managed to disperse the angry mob.
Meanwhile, Police in Sinda District have arrested a 30-year-old man for murdering his 45-year-old uncle after a dispute.
Makoyani Phiri of Zakazaka Village of Chief Kathumba’s area is alleged to have murdered his uncle Peter Phiri around 08:00 hours on Sunday.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila said in Chipata that the suspect is alleged to have used fists to murder his uncle.
Ms Chipalila said the body of the deceased was lying at Katete’s St Francis Hospital.
In Chipata, police have arrested a 48-year-old man for defiling a 14-year-old girl.
Ms Chipalila, who withheld the names of the suspect, said he would appear in court soon.
And police are looking for Vincent Sakala of Sido Township in Chipata who is alleged to have assaulted his wife Belita Nyirenda.
Nyirenda later died at Chipata General Hospital on March 27.
She said the suspect allegedly punched and kicked his wife but that the  matter was only reported to the police after the victim died.
