MUNALI Ward councillor Robinson Kalota has declared his intention to contest the position of Lusaka Mayor.
Mr Kalota will come up against current Deputy Mayor Mulenga Sata who was the first councillor to announce his candidature.
According to Lusaka district Patriotic Front (PF) information and publicity secretary Matafwali Mwenya, the position of deputy mayor is hotly contested by 10 candidates.
Among the candidates vying for the position of deputy mayor are Potipher Tembo, Christopher Shakafuswa, Humphrey Kapapula, George Nyendwa, Cassius Mbalazi, Joyce Ntenga-Banda, Maggie Astridah Zulu, Chikutano Nkhoma, Maurice Phiri and Macbridge Sekeleti.
In Livingstone, the UPND has floated Simoonga Ward councillor Milford Maambo for the position of mayor, while MMD has proposed Mwalibonena Ward councillor Matthews Jere for the same position.
UPND Mosi-oa-tunya Ward councillor Ziwa Ziwa said his party had settled for Mr Maambo for the position of Mayor.
Mr Ziwa said in an interview yesterday that his party had, however, not yet made a decision on the position of the Deputy Mayor as consultations were still going on.
PF Akapelwa Ward councillor Chileshe Sikazwe said his party had not yet made a decision on the position of mayor.
Mr Sikazwe, however, said all three PF councillors were interested in the position of deputy mayor and they would garner support from other parties once one of them was adopted by the ruling party.
MMD Namatama Ward councillor Fennix Liandisha said his party had floated Mr Jere for the position of the mayor.
Mr Liyandisha, however, said the former ruling party was still making consultations on the position of deputy mayor.
In Kitwe, the candidates vying for the position of mayor include current deputy mayor Kelvin Sinyangwe who is councillor for Kafue Ward, Everisto Chilufya Luangwa Ward, Ackson Mungalaba, Buntungwa Ward and his Riverside Ward counterpart Christopher Kang’ombe.
