Lusaka, March 29,ZANIS——–Chiawa Ward Councilor in Kafue district Soda Nyasanga says people’s maize fields are being completely eaten away by wild animals.

Mr.Nyasanga says there is need to find a lasting solution to the problem being faced by people in Chiawa as their fields are being destroyed by wild animals.

He said the worst affected areas that are Mugaramenu and Chiawa Central saying currently people have been forced to harvest their crops prematurely for fear of the ravaging animals.

Mr. Nyasanga told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka, today.

He said that the matter has been reported to Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) who he said have been unsuccessful to manage the wild animals.

He has since appealed to well-wishers to help the affected areas with solar electrified fences which can be put around the fields to prevent the animals from grazing the crops.

Mr. Nyasanga said the solar electrified fences have no effects on the animals saying it has worked well in Muguramenu area where 10.4 hectare field has been electrified using solar by a well wisher who owns one of the lodges in Lower Zambezi National Park.

He said about 35 farmers have grown their crops in the solar electrified field adding that it was not enough to accommodate the larger population in the area which stands at about 2,025 people.
