Failure of constitution motion in parliament not the end-LAZ

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) says the failure of the constitution motion in Parliament meant to urge government to provide a roadmap on the enactment of the country’s new constitution, is not the end of the matter.

LAZ president James Banda says people should take up the matter and continue lobbying and using all available means to ensure that a people driven constitution is realized.

Mr. Banda says there are no two ways about the issue of the new constitution considering that the PF while in opposition was in agreement with the people of Zambia on need for a new people driven constitution.

He says it is therefore not acceptable for the ruling Patriotic Front to change goal posts now that they are in power.

Meanwhile Mr Banda says people planning to hold public gatherings such as political rallies only need to give Police seven days notice.

The LAZ president says the only ground upon which the Police can stop such public gathering is when they are short of manpower.

Mr Banda has told QFM News in a telephone interview that any other reason to stop such a gathering would be unlawful.
