PUPILS at Wincanton Primary School have been cooking up a treat in partnership with their link school in Zambia using only Fairtrade ingredients.

Class teacher and Zambia Link committee secretary Sarah Sellick said: “Over the last three years Wincanton Primary has been working in partnership with our link school; Mutundu Primary, Mufulira in Zambia. Each term the children in both schools share the same learning experience in order to promote our countries’ links and interdependence.

“Our most recent learning experience has been about Fairtrade Fortnight. To bring this to life each of the 11 classes at Wincanton baked cakes and biscuits using Fairtrade ingredients. These were then sold to raise money for the link in our Fairtrade café.”

The culmination of the fortnight saw the Grand Wincanton Bake Off on Friday which saw children, parents and friends invited to get creative and take part.

Their efforts were judged by head chef at the Eastbury Hotel and professional Masterchef quarter finalist Matthew Street who announced the bake off champion.
