Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has maintained that it will not register under the 2009 NGO Act despite the third and last extension announced by government.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu in a statement issued to QFM News says his organization’s position remains the same and will not register under the NGO Act.

Mr Lungu says as far as TIZ is concerned, the NGO Act remains a bad law and whether it is extended one million times does not cleanse this bad law into becoming a good and conducive law.

He says TIZ has been and remains consistent in opposing this bad law from the time the MMD government enacted it and consistently opposes it under the PF government that is forcing NGOs to register under it.

Mr Lungu has advised the Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Health and the PF Government to concentrate their energies in reviewing the NGO Act as promised in their Manifesto as opposed to the current u-turns and unnecessary
extensions.

He has further encouraged the PF government to halt and completely shelve the current NGO registration process and concentrate on mutual consensus building process that will ensure confidence through the repealing and replacement of the 2009 NGO Act.
