ORIENTAL Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) manager Christopher Malunga has expressed happiness that Catherine Phiri and Charles Manyuchi have been declared fit to fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) belts.
Catherine takes on Pia Mazelanik in a WBC silver bantamweight title fight while Manyuchi faces Patrick Allotey of Ghana for WBC international welterweight title belt.
Malunga said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the two boxers underwent medicals at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka yesterday.
He said the boxers were ready for the fight and was confident that the two WBC belts will remain in Zambia.
“We are set for the fights and the boxers have been declared ready to fight this Saturday. Catherine and Manyuchi were subjected to intensive medical tests and we are happy that they are fit to fight and we are calling on fans to turn up in numbers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malunga said the stable was confident of meeting the K90, 000 shortfall needed to successfully stage the fights.
He expressed confidence that the shortfall from the K753, 000 budget would be raised before tomorrow night’s fights set for the Government Complex in Lusaka.
The two WBC title fights will be supported by four bouts that will see light-heavyweight Donald Kampamba up against Chamunorwa Kunorenda of Zimbabwe in a non-title fight.
Congolese boxer Mbia Kanku, fighting under OQBP, will take on Takudzwa Kuchocha also from Zimbabwe in a welterweight non-title fight.
Two exciting pugilists Pethias Chisenga and Gibbon Kamota will battle for the vacant national bantamweight title while the women affair pits Lorita Muzeya of OQBP against Monalisa Sibanda in the welterweight bout.
