Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini should understand that opposition Members of Parliament have the responsibility to stand up for the people and demand the release of the constitution.

Mr Hichilema has told QFM News that the action of the opposition Members of Parliament to mount pressure on the Executive to enact a new constitution is commendable.

Mr. Hichilema has particularly praised his party’s MPs and those from the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) as well as the Alliance for Democracy and Development MP and Independent Lubansenshi MP Patrick Mucheleka for what he has described as a commendable job.

He has observed that such pressure by the opposition MPs on the Executive is long overdue.

Mr Hichilema adds that there is need for other measures outside Parliament which will further mount pressure on government to release the draft constitution.
