The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says its supports the decision made by political parties in terms of how they intend to enjoy their freedoms of association and expression.

Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says his organization is also of the understanding that the decision made by the Opposition Alliance to field one candidate in the future by-elections between now and 2016 is something that is within their democratic rights.

Mr. Cheembe says SACCORD to this effect supports the move.

Mr. Cheembe has however told Qfm news in a telephone interview that much as such a move is welcome, it is important that the Alliance keeps it in mind that Democracy must always involve the participation of all people that the four political parties represent.

He says this is why his organization is appealing to the four opposition political parties which are the MMD, ABZ, ZED and the PP to follow consultative processes that are laid down in their individual constitutions as they choose to field one candidates in future by-elections.

He says this is in order that members of the individual political parties also endorse the one candidate that has been chosen to represent the Alliance.

The SACCORD Executive Director has also advised that in choosing one candidate to represent the alliance in a by-election, members of the Opposition Alliance must further ensure that the chosen candidate should one that represents the ideologies of all four political party members of the Alliance.
