Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President Nevers Mumba has called for street protests as way to push the Patriotic Front government to release the final draft constitution.

Dr Mumba says this is the only remaining solution to government’s failure to release the final draft constitution.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Dr. Mumba points out if Ukrainians managed through massive demonstrations to have their demands met, Zambia can as well use such methods because the government has not provided a clear constitution roadmap.

He notes that all the relevant methods have been tried to push government to release the draft constitution but to no avail.

Dr.Mumba says there is need for the opposition parties, Church mother bodies, Civil Society Organizations and all concerned stakeholders to work together towards a common goal and stop finger pointing each other.

He adds that President Michael Sata is mocking Zambians over the constitution which he promised to deliver within ninety days, which has now taken him over eight hundred and ten days to state clearly the road map for the new constitution.

Dr Mumba has since praised the opposition Members of Parliament for their brevity by staging protests in the house over the constitution saying the country needs such methods to show that the people truly want their new constitution.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mumba has congratulated the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) for winning the Katuba parliamentary by-election with a huge margin.

Dr. Mumba says his party’s loss in Katuba will not deter them from continuing to participate in other by-elections.

He explains that following the poor performance in the just ended by-elections, the party held a senior management meeting yesterday and unanimously agreed that the observations and concerns discussed relating to the poor performance in Katuba be presented to a full National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in the next ten days.

  1. Street protests to country wide protests , then tear gas will be thrown, live gun shots will be fired, some people will be hit, some will die then the whole thing will become uncontrollable so that ONE greedy, rapacious person can become president? Anyway, it’s like a monkey in the jungle !!!!

  2. Just a country wide protest wil do, coz I think a few tycøonz in P.F. Think they own Zambia..very stubborn & we neva voted them in power for their qualities but for simply to just change the government..
