UPND leads Katuba poll by huge margin, official results later

The Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has taken lead in the Katuba Parliamentary by-election by a huge margin with only three polling stations remaining to be considered.

Information reaching Qfm news suggests that out of the 29 polling stations where counting of votes has been concluded, UPND’s Jonas Shakafuswa has polled in 4327 votes ahead of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Moses Chilando who has received 2536 votes.

Mr. Chilando is followed by Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) candidate Cecil Holmes in third position with 653 votes while the National Restoration Party (NAREP) candidate Joseph Mushalika is in fourth position with 553 votes.

In fifth position is Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) candidate Patricia Mwashingwele with 382 votes and United National Independence Party (UNIP) candidate Allan Malawo is in sixth position after receiving 117 votes.

National Revolution Party (NRP) candidate Shakespeare Mwakamui is in seventh position with 23 votes.

Votes for the remaining 3 polling stations are expected to be announced by 10:00hrs this morning at totally center where the winner of the election will also be announced.

The Katuba constituency has about 28,903 registered voters.
