—Government has released K104, 520 to 14 women clubs in Kaputa district under the Women Empowerment Fund programme.

Assistant Community Development Officer, Dean Mweemba, said the money was released this week and will be distributed to the clubs starting next week.

Mr Mweemba said his department will also take advantage of the coming International Women’s Day which falls on March 8 to distribute the funds and to speak with women on various developmental issues concerning the funds.

He noted that although the clubs have been receiving funding from government, many of them have continued to perform below average.

Mr. Mweemba who was speaking to ZANIS in an interview in Kaputa today attributed the problem to lack of entrepreneurship skill on the part of the women and the lack of regular monitoring.

He said a number of clubs do not have the expertise to effectively conduct their area of business, adding that there is need for stakeholders to come on board and help with the women club in capacity building.

Meanwhile, Mr Mweemba has expressed happiness that the women have continued to keep going and helping themselves and their families through clubs.

He said the women are engaging themselves in any profit oriented businesses ranging from agriculture to trading in clothes.

Over hundred women’s clubs in Kaputa district receive various support from government through the Ministry of Community Development under the Women Empowerment Fund Programme.
